The present work studies the removal efficiency (organic matter and nutrients) of the horizontal distribution of Chlorophyll a, as well as algae identification and quantification in an Aerated Facultative Pond (AFP) and a Maturation Pond (MP) in series piggery waste treating. During the study, four operational criteria were adopted: Start, Period 1, Period 2 and Period 3, with different surface organic loading rates. Removal values for the systems (AFP + MP) were in the order of 60%-80% for BOD5 and COD; between 60%-70% for phosphate and 70%-90% for N-NH3 (except Start). The results show the existence of a variation in Chlorophyll a concentration between periods, which was more intense in Period 2. The algal counting showed ranging between 1.105?1.107 cell/mL. Predominant algae in the system were Chlorella sp. (60 ? 90% of the total).
